He started his working life within the family business, constructing timber buildings. Craig thoroughly enjoyed working with timber and learned many useful skills. His dad is a hard-working “lead by example” man, and he instilled many of Craig’s quality work ethics.
Craig decided at the age of 17 to try his hand at a different venture, doing a variety of jobs from one week to the next for local agencies. Craig enjoyed this as he experienced various industries. Finally, one week before Craig’s 18th birthday, he was allowed to help out with the plumbing at a local firm. His boss was so impressed by how hard the young 17-year-old worked that he gave him a permanent position as an apprentice plumber. Craig set off on his way, learning the trade and developing new skills. Once he had completed his apprenticeship in 2007, he was given a van and sent out as a fully qualified plumber. Shortly after he’d completed his gas qualifications, Craig started a business with his uncle in 2008. They built up a very successful local maintenance company. Craig worked as a Gas heating engineer until the company grew to a size where Craig was required in an office-based managerial role—acquiring more skills from the desk side of the industry. In April 2016, Craig felt he had achieved everything he set out to and decided to start a new venture, Holland Gas.
While Liam had enrolled in college, he still had to find a work placement. The recession had hit the plumbing industry hard, meaning there was not much call for apprentices. Unfortunately, Liam missed out on a placement until 2013, when he was one of eight students to be interviewed by Craig. Craig, being a good judge of character, hand picked him for a week’s trial. Craig knew from the first day he had made the right decision. When Liam was offered the job as an apprentice plumber, the first thing he did, with a big grin on his face, was text his mum. Liam left college in 2015 and, although very young, he was a trusted and valued member of the team. Liam proved his skills and was determined to provide the best quality work and be known as a professional. Liam loves the industry and is usually found singing very badly in his van. Liam joined Craig at Holland Gas in April 2016.
Lorraine previously worked as a property manager for a well-established letting agent, where she achieved a vast amount of experience with communicating with landlords and tenants. As such, she understands the importance of offering a prompt, efficient reliable and courteous service. Lorraine is looking forward to watching the business grow and supporting the engineers in providing a first-class service to Holland Gas’s customers, old and new.
Not having realised his ambition, he decided to get out into the great outdoors, working as a groundworker and specialising in artificial grass and patios. After a couple of years, Steve decided to trade the ground for a little higher. Steve became a roofer and must be a glutton for punishment in our lovely English weather!
Following an unfortunate accident, while arm-wrestling his friend, he broke his arm. During his time healing, he was bored and asked his friend Landon if he could give him a hand (no pun intended). Steve went to work with Landon to keep his mind active and fell in love with the industry. Steve is currently training to become a qualified gas engineer. You may have noticed a pattern to all the staff at Holland Gas; we prepare our own to be of the highest standard. Steve is the latest prodigy
